What criteria do you use for electing a political official, whether it be the president, a senator or local official? Do you try for a guy that has a majority of your beliefs, or do you have one thing you feel so strongly about that, as long as they agree with that, you'll vote for them. I once worked with a guy who felt so strongly about the right to bear arms, that he would have voted for Hitler, as long as he could keep his guns with no restrictions.
With me for example, I don't like religious zealots, evangelicals, people who say abortion should be illeagal no matter the circumstances, "the year of the bible",etc, but on the other hand, I don't think there should be so many entitlements for people who don't even try to get a job. I think English should be the first language and I think there should be a flat tax. So where does that put me? Moderate? Independent? And if you say you're a liberatarian, no one who represents you're party is ever going to realistically get elected President, so what do you do?

I rarely have anything to celebrate here in dreary ole Warren PA, home to the subspecies Homorustbelticus, either an Appalachian nightmare or happy fantasy depending on your family genes and intellectual functioning level.

BUT

It has occurred to my dull and dim witted nervous system that The U.S. of A is becoming , in spite of all old white man efforts to stop it, a colorful ethnically diverse and omni -sexual system. Not so visible here perhaps in the outback where people struggle to hold on to the old white and homophobic christian values and ways but in the larger community.

It's over, get on the train or walk behind.... Gays in the military killing people in far off lands, a sort of black guy parading as a liberal in the White House ( need to change that name) and golf no longer solely the bastion of rich white guys.

The Catholic hierarchy (all men I might add) want government money and tax exempt status but refuse to play by a civil societies rules and provide contraception to those, including many and perhaps the majority of Catholic women, who are not living in medieval times.

Of course they they rely on their preferred form of birth control, having sex with underage boys.
